is the author of Self-Portrait with Boy, a finalist for the Center for Fiction's 2018 First Novel Prize, and Fruit of the Dead, named a best book of 2024 by outlets including Oprah Magazine, Elle, and British GQ. Her short stories have appeared in One Story, The Rumpus, Electric Literature, and elsewhere. A cofounder of Ditmas Lit (Brooklyn, NY) and The Dream Away Reading Series (Becket, MA), Rachel has taught creative writing for institutions including Bennington College and the American University of Paris, where she was the 2024 Paris Writer in Residence. She grew up in Brooklyn, NY, and lives with her family in Western Massachusetts.
